Jen Cherewaty BSc., R.TCMP
Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner & Registered Acupuncturist
Hello! I am Jen Cherewaty.
Working as a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner since 2005, I have developed a deep understanding of using Chinese Medicine to improve health. I have treated pain, sport and work related injuries, sleeplessness, mental emotional symptoms, headaches and much more with great success.
As a mom of a two year old and former childcare worker, I also hold a special interest in family and women's health. I treat all stages of a woman's life cycle including menstrual issues, fertility, birth, postpartum and menopause. As a Doula, Birth Attendant, I have participated in several births, and gained much experience in the birth process while honoring and supporting each woman's individual birth choices. Additionally, I have worked collaboratively with midwives, physicians, chiropractors, physiotherapists and massage therapists to provide the most comprehensive care for my patients.
Patients often come to me when western medicine cannot offer them health improvements. They believe that there is a way to improve their health, but they are not sure how. I am constantly amazed by the power of acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage and diet to bring health improvements to each of my patients. Soon after we begin treatment the patient begins to feel better, their belief in their ability to heal is strengthened and their health continues to improve.
Originally born and raised in Ontario, Canada, I was always intrigued by the natural world and also had an interest in medicine. I attended Queens University at Kingston where I completed my Bachelor of Science in Biology. Afterwards, a fascination for mountains and nature led me to work as a naturalist for Parks Canada in Yoho and Banff National Parks.
Following a painful spinal injury which medical doctors could not improve without suggesting surgery, I found relief using chiropractic, acupuncture and herbal medicine. Passionate for a more complete understanding of complementary medicine, I enrolled in the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Ontario where I completed my first year of studies and realized a specific interest in Oriental Medicine. I transferred to the Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences in Nelson, BC and graduated, with honors, as a Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner. At graduation, I was granted the Citizenship Award by fellow students & faculty for outstanding volunteer contribution to local and school community. Soon after, I began treating patients, was invited to teach at the local TCM school, taught community health classes at the local college and also wrote a weekly "Health Matters" column in the local newspaper.
In addition to qualifications as a Registered TCM Practitioner, I am an Anusara trained Yoga Teacher. I started yoga after a recommendation for hip pain from my physiotherapist and have now been practicing yoga for over 15 years. For the past 10 years, I have been honored to teach classes that invite the body to open, the mind to stretch, the community to connect and the soul to blossom.
