Nourishing your body and mind!
"Something we were withholding made us weak. Until
we found out that it was ourselves." - Robert Frost
Hi, I'm Magdalen Bowyer, the latest addition to the Cross Roads team, and together, our work is about learning to live well.
My neighbour said something recently that jarred me: "Sometimes life just gets in the way!"
Many of us believe this: that we cannot get to the things we really want to get to because we just have too many demands placed on us.
Is this really true?
No.
When we give ourselves the time to read, meditate, exercise, be in nature, play music or do any of the things we love to do, we are inviting the soul's voice to turn up its volume and guide us through our own inspiration.
However, most of the time we are keeping ourselves so wrapped up in busywork that we cannot hear that inner voice.
For me, the practice is to stay vigilant in a world that would pull me in a thousand directions and hold steady to what calls me creatively.
How do we know what calls us?
My son gave me a piece of wisdom that's on my fridge door. The author is unknown, but the insight is universal: "She was getting bogged down thinking about what she should do until she remembered to just do what felt good."
That's it! Do what feels good. Tune into our emotional guidance system and do what feels good.
Feeling good is related to creativity, which is the quality we bring to whatever we may be doing. It's an attitude. An inner approach. It's the stand we are willing to take that allows us to reconnect with a stream of well-being.
It matters not what form our creativity takes. It can be a sporting activity, writing, painting, dancing, storytelling, making home, cooking, tending a garden, growing a business, parenting, playing outdoors... they all make up the alchemy of our lives. They are the ways we take the time to care for ourselves. Our inner-world needs should come first because when we satisfy our own needs, we feel renewed and invigorated. Then we find the vitality to share with others.
Hectic schedules, frenzied obligations, gatherings we'd rather not attend - all risk draining our joy and our sense of feeling good. Now is the time to get clear about what energizes us positively.
What is the busywork that is keeping you from your joy?
Does your self-care come first?
What is making you feel good
today?

A message from the Naturopathic Team
With the weather getting a little nicer and the days getting longer, maintaining good energy throughout our day is a priority for most of us.Often we are too quick to reach for caffeine or high sugar foods and snacks for a pick me up. Instead, choosing protein and nutrient rich snacks as an alternative can give us the biggest boost. Below is one of our favourite recipes...
Big Fat Wrap
1 Ezekiel sprouted grain wrap
1/4 cup black beans
1 tsp. cumin, ground
1.5 tbsp. chopped red onion
1/3 cup cook chopped chicken
1/3 cup shredded cabbage
1/4 cup fresh salsa
1/4 cup shredded organic old cheddar cheese (optional)
Heat the beans with the cumin, the onion, and 1/4 cup water. Mash the beans so that they form a paste or 'refried bean' texture. Put the cheese on the wrap skin and warm it in the oven (wrapped in foil, so the edges don't dry out). Put all other ingredients on it and roll it up. It will probably be overstuffed, but that's the way we like it. Yum! Fiber and protein!
Aside from nourishing our bodies, there are many forms of natural medicines that can help to support and nourish our ability to maintain great energy. Herbal medicines such as: Siberian Ginseng, Rhodiola, Tribulus, Astragalus and Licorice root are examples of botanicals that may be incorporated into your naturopathic treatment plan for sustaining healthy vitality.
So.....if you are feeling like you need to nap during the day or have trouble keeping alert and attentive during daily activities, schedule a naturopathic visit to get on your way to healthy energy levels today!
See you soon!
